My Metal Shop

This is a sub-set of my shop. It's where I'm learning to work metal and get it to be in the shapes I want it to be in - without paying someone else to do it for me. I found out very fast in my automotive experiences that I can't hammer metal into place by hand to save my life, so bodywork is pretty much out of the question for me, at least for now. However, there are a large number of cases where small brackets, spacers, and other little bits need to be created and shaped - and that's the kind of work I'm starting to do. I've discovered the glory of precision tools such a lathes, mills, and drill presses - and I'm steadily learning how to use them to make the small parts my mind's eye can see, but up until now have not made it into the Real World except as drawings, diagrams, and descriptions on web pages.

For a primer on the tools involved, check out my Precision Metal Carving page. I'll add some more details, pictures, and projects here as time goes on. For now, I'm feeling my way around with some new tools and trying to make sure all of my appendages stay attached and intact. :-)
